Fortunately, Isaiah survived the accident but suffered life-threatening injuries, including a ripped a muscle in his neck that's left him in a neck brace, a head injury that required 20 to 30 stitches he also had to get surgery on his leg, and received five screws in his knee. Isaiah is also in a plaster cast from the waist down.
Police say Weitzel admitted to using cocaine that day and that he told them "the reason he wanted to kill Isaiah was because being a father was a big responsibility and he did not think he was man enough to raise a child." He told investigators, "I was trying to kill my son."
According to court records obtained by WHAS 11, Weitzel told investigators that he took his son the park around 11 am on August 21, while he was at the park watching his son play, he sat there and thought of ways to kill his son, then he left the park and drove around looking for a good place to crash and kill his son.
According to court records, investigators saw witnesses holding Isaiah after the crash. When a sheriff’s deputy took over holding Isaiah’s head, to make sure his neck was still, Isaiah was crying and “appeared to be fading in and out of consciousness.”
