EFCC set to seize Fayose’s N1.35bn properties

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced moves to seize some properties linked to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State


According to the EFCC, houses to be seized are four duplexes on Victoria Island in Lagos State and one located at 44 Osun Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

A reliable source told our correspondent on Thursday that the houses were allegedly purchased with illegitimate funds, stating that the EFCC could invoke the Assets Forfeiture clause to seize the properties in line with sections 28 and 34 of the EFCC (Establishment Act) 2004 and Section 13 (1) of the Federal High Court Act, 2004.


The EFCC is currently investigating Fayose for allegedly receiving N1.219bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser through a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who is currently in school in the United States of America.

After freezing Fayose’s Zenith Bank accounts, the anti-graft agency alleged that it had uncovered details of how the governor had been receiving kickbacks from state contractors.

The source added, “Investigations showed that the properties were bought with bribes from Ekiti State contractors. Some of the properties were not bought in Fayose’s name but through proxies. So, we will seize all the properties by God’s grace.”


The EFCC had, in a 10-paragraph counter-affidavit deposed to by Tosin Owobo, accused Fayose of using the proceeds of crime to purchase properties.

The affidavit reads in part, “Apart from fraudulently retaining the sum of N1,219,490,000 being part of the N4,745,000,000 stolen from the treasury of the Federal Government through the Office of the National Security Adviser, the applicant (Fayose) has also received gratification in form of kickbacks from various contractors with the Ekiti State Government such as Samchese Nigeria Limited, Tender Branch Concept Nig. Limited, Hoff Concept Limited and Calibre Consulting Limited.

“The applicant (Fayose) received these kickbacks and gratification through Still Earth Limited and Signachorr Nigeria Limited. In turn the applicant (Fayose) instructed the Still Earth Limited and Signachoor Nigeria Limited to use the funds to acquire properties for him.

“In complying with the applicant’s instruction, Still Earth Limited and Signachoor Nigeria Limited acquired properties on behalf of the applicant (Fayose) in the name of a company, known as J.J. Technical Services Limited, belonging to the applicant (Fayose) and his wife (Feyisetan).

“That the applicant (Fayose) also used the name of one Mrs. Moji Ladeji (the applicant’s sister) to acquire a property situated at 44 Osun Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, from the proceeds of the alleged offences of receiving gratification and kickbacks.”

In his reaction, however, Fayose said all the properties linked to him were not bought with stolen funds.

In a statement by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said any property that might be linked to him or his company was “bought legitimately and his properties were duly declared in his assets declaration form and sources of such funds were not illicit.”

He said since the money he got for his election was from legitimate sources and not from the ONSA, “how the money is spent remains his own business and not that of anyone.”

‘I am concerned for the safety of my family’ – Drake on recent police killings in United States

The Canadian rapper who has embraced America as his second home thinks a lasting solution to the menace can be reached if there is an embrace of an open and honest dialogue.

Canadian rapper Drake has voiced his concerns about the recent spate of black people’s murders at the hands of police in the United States.

Drake, who has adopted the country as his second home, shared a statement in reaction to the recent murder of Alton Sterling, a reported CD seller from Baton Rouge who was tragically killed by two police officers.

‘I am grateful to be able to call America my second home,’ a usually silent Drizzy on socially controversial issues said in a message shared on his Instagram page.

‘Last night, when I saw the video of Alton Sterling being killed, it left me feeling disheartened, emotional and truly scared. I woke up with a strong need to say something.’

‘It’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains strained as it was decades ago. No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues.’

Further speaking on his concerns for the safety of his loved ones, the rapper thinks a lasting solution to the menace can be reached if there is an embrace of an open and honest dialogue.

‘This is real and i am concerned. Concerned for the safety of my family, my friends and any human being that could fall victim to this pattern. I do not know the answer. But i believe things can change for the better. Open and honest dialogue is the first step,’ his message continued to read.

‘My thoughts and prayers are with the Sterling family and any family that has lost someone to this cycle of violence.

‘Be safe out there. More life.’

I’ve N300m in my Zenith account–Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has confirmed an allegation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that he had N300m in one of his accounts in Zenith Bank with number 9013074033.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said this in a series of tweets on Facebook  under the hash tag ‘Fayose speaks.’

Fayose, however, maintained that he deposited the money into his fixed deposit account before he was sworn-in as governor and had declared it in his asset declaration form.

He, therefore, rubbished the EFCC reports that he deposited the money in April 2015, six months after he had become governor.

Olayinka tweeted, “I declared in my assets declaration form that I had N300m in my fixed deposit account in Zenith Bank #Fayose Speaks.”

He maintained that he never received campaign funds from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014.

He added, “I did not get money from the NSA Office to fund my election. It is just a conspiracy; it will fail like that of 2006.

“By the end of this month, we are starting a social welfare scheme in which 7,000 people will be getting N5, 000 per month #FayoseSpeaks

“We deceive ourselves too much in this country. Even our population that they said is 150 million is not true.”

The EFCC, which has since frozen the account had alleged that Fayose’s associate, Abiodun Agbele, allegedly received N1.219bn from the ONSA on behalf of Fayose and then paid part of the money into the governor’s current account and company account.

The commission had also alleged that Fayose personally moved N300m from the money and used it to open a fixed deposit account in April 2015.

The EFCC had said, “Abbey (Agbele) directed the bank to pay N137m into the account of Ayodele Fayose with number 1003126654 and Bank Verification Number 22338867502. The bank teller dated June 26, 2014, was filled by Abbey with teller number 0556814.

“Abbey directed the bank to transfer N118, 760, 000 to the same account and paid in N50m cash into Fayose’s account.”

Avengers bomb Chevron’s oil facilities again,attack guards

The rampaging militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, on Wednesday night attacked three oil manifolds belonging to Chevron Nigeria Limited around the creeks of Warri in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.

There was however a drama after the militants blew up the facilities as they opened fire on local surveillance youths who had attempted to know what was happening following the explosions.


Local sources told one of our correspondents that the incident took place along the creeks of Ikparagbene community near Dibi Flow Station that was recently attacked by the militants in Warri North Local Government Area of the state.

The group’s spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, some residents and security agencies confirmed the incident.

One of our correspondents gathered that the loud explosions which heralded the attacks woke up many residents from their sleep.

A villager from the community told one of our correspondents on the telephone that youths from the area who had gone to the area to ascertain what was amiss were ambushed by the militants.

It was however not clear if any member of the surveillance team was injured or killed in the attack.

The local surveillance team was employed by the oil company to guard oil facilities in the area.

Industry sources who also confirmed the attacks, added that a technical expert team had been dispatched to the incident site to ascertain the level of damage.

A source noted that the affected manifolds were crude oil platforms that supply crude to Chevron Escravos Terminal.

The Avengers, while confirming the attack in a statement posted on their website said, “Between the hours of 10.50pm and 11.10pm our (Niger Delta Avengers) strike team blew up Chevron Manifolds. The manifolds are RMP 22, 23 and 24.”

The militants also wished all Muslims a happy Eid Mubarak.

In a similar statement, it also announced that the group had shut down all its social media accounts, saying that it would now be communicating with members of the public through its website.

According to The Avengers, fraudsters had taken over their activities on the blogging sites including Facebookand Twitter.

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Celestina Kalu, confirmed that there was an explosion on oil facilities but the command had yet to receive any report on the extent of damage.

But the spokesperson for the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Benin, Edo State, Capt. Musa Maidawa, said he had not been briefed on the incident.

Meanwhile, a federal commissioner representing North-Central geopolitical zone in the Public Complaints Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has called on the Niger Delta militants to turn their attacks on their leaders who failed them rather than destroying state facilities.

Tsav, who is a former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, decried the incessant attacks on the nation’s oil wells, adding that the militants were misdirecting their anger on the nation.

“That is why I’m calling on them (militants) not to pour the sins of their corrupt leaders on the nation, let them turn the guns and bombs on those leaders who have mercilessly embezzled what belong to the people of Niger Delta and allow peace to reign in the country,” he said.
